Dadaism

This is what I found when I typed Dadaism.

The movement that the article says about primarily involved literature, visual arts, poetry, art theory, art manifestoes, theatre and graphic design. And this is few of his art works -->

Basically, it is show that how Dadaist was looking for a new means of expression: one that had more meaning than the prevailing drift into abstraction, but that did not simply return to the traditions of figurative painting. In other words: Dadaist try to communicate and it's like story telling about something (those time was about World War) through arts. And Dadaist was using mixed media and likely it is called photomontage. The art of photomontage could be said to have started just after the First World War, but the manipulation of photographs already had a history going back to the invention of photography in the mid 19th century.

Till then, in present day..
There are a lot of artist are still using the same way but in their own creativity. Such like Liz Huston. I know some of you people don't know her, but she is one of the best new artist and her art works caught my eyes.

The Photomontage Art of Liz Huston: A Videography

*click the link to watch her video. you won't regret it :)

Another unknown artist is Ruberman Rodriguez. I actually found and knew him last few years ago when I was about 15 years old. I knew him at this used-to-be-famous website called MySpace, and the whole profile page of his attracted my eyes, so I was never stop reading his stories and his art works. I was really amazed. At those time, he was just an ordinary person like everyone until he became a known artist among teenage like us by spreading his art works through websites such like deviant art, My Space, blogs and more.

Till now, there are a lot of designers out there including all of us. It is our job to design something new in our own creativity or styles.

Solutions Behind Random Words

Remember Juxtaposition that I talked about in previous post? Well this time is more awesome than before. Random Words and Juxtaposition are actually similar but both of it work in different way. Juxtaposition is likely use subject directly while the Random Words take the subject and use it in advanced way which is more creative and produce blind variety of ideas or unpredictable one.

Check out our class exercises (the titled is how to make a person stop smoking in 6 months time??), it' fun though!!

random words given is "Traffic Light"

The problem is to stop people from smoking.

the point of the random words : Dirty, Color, Metal, Sign

I'll go with "Dirty" first.
The solution is that can make the smoker obstructed from smoking by making the cigarettes look really gross coated with that dirty stuff surround the it.

"Color"

while for this case, by using traffic light colors which is green, yellow and red surround the cigarrete can make the beautiful colors covered on smoker's mouth, how about make it permanent colors? hehehe *sacarstic voice and evil laugh

"Metal"
How about put some chemical stuffs inside the cigarrete? So that the smoker will feel it disgusts them or it can be some kind of poisonous.

"Sign"
Put words that give huge impact to people, so that feel teribble

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition means "placing things side-by-side". The artist usually has an intention of bringing out a specific quality or creating an effect, especially when the person picks two completely contrasting objects and make comparison. How does it work? okay, Let's see mine :) (those works are actually the exercises that we did in the class)

I was given 10 number (left column) and 10 number (right column), it was arranged by lecturer, so form this, I have to choose any number from those column and pair it.

So I choose 04, 08, 94 (its actually my birth date hehe) and then I have to combine it, to make it in one word. And then I got Fly-Mountain, Fly-Wood and Leave-Mountain.

So here's the result of Fly-Mountain. And have to make a sentence about it to, so I wrote "I was born to fly. Whenever I need some space to hangout, I'll fly to a mountain." haha that was quite bad I know. And the picture at the bottom shows that "flymountain" in one word, so I have to draw flymountain...and it became like that haha.

And this is from a word of Fly-Wood. And I made the sentence like, "The puppies fly whenever I throw them a wood." And there goes my "flywood", *pheww* I wonder how would it be if a wood is flying with it own feathers..literally, oh it could be dangerous though.

And lastly, Leave-Mountain. Actually, there's two meaning in a same word, so I choose leave (plant) instead of the other meaning. So there you go a "leavemountain", and I forgot to draw Leave-Mountain because it seems so...I don't know, so I managed to draw "leavemountain" first hehe.

How mergers go wrong???

So I combined these two animals which is a Giraffe and Butterfly. So this is how it looks like. It's beautiful thought but it seems too dangerous, you know how big Giraffe is right? And if it got a wings to fly, especially when it got Butterfly's wings (which is wide), probably it could be disturbed to people.

So not all things can be combined, if it is wrong, probably it could be danger to people or it own companies.

Mortar and Pestle

Basically Mortar is the bowl, and it's made of hard wood, ceramic or stone. While the Pestle is the heavy club-shaped object, which is used for crushing and grinding. The mortar and pestle is usually utilised when cooking and when crushing ingredients or herbs for a certain medicine in pharmacies.

Lecturer gave a this kinda fun task where everyone has to create something that using mortar and pestle. Check out mine! :D

Fashion

It looks like fashion time! :D Okay, it's really looks a little bit funny but yeah, I'm sure all young girls love fashion. And definitely a tiara and wand are a MUST. hihi

Medic

Or it can be used as stethoscope for a doctor?

Noise

Or it can be used as an alarm bell!! Wow this is so classy and unique compared to the real one hehe

Not all inventions bring innovations

*Articles

  1. Japan's gadget failures: The future that never happened
  2. The Japanese gadgets of the future - now stuck in the past
Inventions is a new configuration, composition of matter, device or process. Or in other word is inventions can extend the boundaries of human knowledge or experiences. When it comes to a word of invention, it shows a huge of imaginations of a person. What I mean is imagination is the thing that process in ones brain to produce or create a device. While  innovation is the implementation of a new product or a new marketing method.
So does all invention brought advantages and can be useful by everyone?

There were so many failures before all inventions and innovation Japan has made, for example an inventor from Japan, Kenichi Masuda.

*Kenichi Masuda with his Toshiba's "Walking Type Toaseter WT-2" (left), and "Snack-3" a cooking machine in Tokyo.

There are a lot of inventions which is failed and became the futures that never happened in a new exhibition Tokyo. All the devices at the picture really unnecessary to made where it only can be used for certain things and not effective. For an example, Snack-3 (a device that can be used to warm a milk, toaster and frying an egg), this device actually a great idea but only for someone who like western breakfast every day. Not all the devices worked and not all people want to spend their money a thing that can be used only for a certain thing.

To make a devices, we must think out of the box on how to create or produce the best device that can be used by everyone and a device that very useful for the future. There is  always be failures, but in order to succeed, you have to be experienced in mistakes or fails. So that you learn something new and can be improved from that.

Mind Map!

A man from the video I just uploaded is Tony Buzan. He is the one who is a proponent of the techniques of Mind Mapping.

"His world famous Mind Maps technique is in fact flawed as he focuses almost exclusively on the popular assumption that both sides of the brain have separate functions when they in fact work together."

Mind map is graphically way to represent ideas and concepts. It is like a visual thinking too that helps structuring information, helping you to better analyze, recall, generate new ideas or summarise words. In a mind map, as opposed to traditional note taking or a linear text, information is structured in a way that resembles much more closely how your brain actually works. Futhermore, it is really fun! Because it works together with analytical and artistic.

But what can we use mind maps for?

  • Note taking
Whenever information is being taken in, mind maps help organize it into a form that is easily assimilated by the brain and easily remembered. And it looks so much easier than just ordinary notes like this -->
  • Recall
Whenever information is being retrieved from memory, mind maps allow ideas to be quickly noted as they occur, in an organized manner. There's no need to form sentences and write them out in full.

  • Creativity

Whenever you want to encourage creativity, mind maps liberate the mind from linear thinking, allowing new ideas to flow more rapidly.

  • Problem Solving
Whenever you are confronted by a problem either professional or personal, mind maps help you see all the issues and how they relate to each other. It helps you to quickly get an overview of how you see different aspects of situations and its' importance.

  • Planning
Whenever you are planning something, mind maps help you get all the relevant information down in one place and organize it easily. They can be used for planning any piece of writing from a letter to a screenplay to a book or for planning a meeting, a day or a vacation.

  • Presentations
Whenever I speak I prepare a mind map for myself of the topic and its flow. This not only helps me organize the ideas coherently. The visual nature of the map means that I can read the whole thing in my head as I talk, without ever having to look at a sheet of paper.

Historical Examination of Creativity.

What traits make them creative?
To me, the 'brain' is the thing that has to be functioning when it comes to a word of 'creative'. What I mean by that is, innovators and inventors from the old days were the ones who used their brains A LOT when it comes to invent something new to be use by people easily. We should be thankful to them, without them, probably we're still cooking with bonfire instead of stove or oven and so more.

One of all words that comes out from my mind is 'think out of the box'. Okay, maybe they felt curiosity for the first where they wanted to know how 'something' unusual could be happened and they explore, such like Sir Isaac Newton been wondering with how did the apple fall from the tree and so on. And he started feels curiosity and started to think out of the box.

Next is 'imagination'. Without imagination, there'll no be something has made. With imagination, the inventors and innovators will imagine on how 'something' would happened? How can 'something' works? and so on. So, from that they develop more ideas.

There's nothing impossible to 'believe' in what you do. The inventors and innovators from the old days have the guts to take challenge or risk on what they do. And from that, they learn their mistakes at the same time so from that, they invent something new with less mistakes and gain their creativeness.

What environmental conditions existed?

The pictures above there show a few tools from Neolithic period. Can you imagine how people from the olden days faced the world with those hard times? This is show how they used their brain fully on how to survive with made this tools to use for hunting and build something.

Other than that, a lot of inventors and innovators built buildings as for 'shelter' for  their country protection. And from that, it makes me think that another environment condition existed was unsafe and chaos. As for an example is the Great Wall of China -->

The construction process for the Great Wall of China began in 221 B.C. in the time of Emperor Qin. It used to keep hostile northern barbarians out of Qin's empireThe Great Wall is not just a wall. Other defensive works such as forts, passes, and beacon towers were built along the Wall to house auxiliary soldiers, store grain and weapons and transmit military information. But the main point here is to protect the Chinese Empire. But now, the world has completely changed and a few sections of the Great Wall have become some of the greatest tourist attractions in the world.

*While in Islam Society where included Islam's expansion of historical creativity, it's all about  religion, art, architecture, science and literature.

The Arch Column of Masjid Wazir Khan

What was the process of creativity?

As I explained the whole thing above is also the process of creativity. 'Curiosity', 'Explore' and 'Think out of the box' as they generate and develop new ideas then it leads to 'imagination' where they need to think of something unique for their inventions. And includes the environment too, where creativity could happen in some oof environmental conditions such like for shelter or protection, living (where people need to survive), religions, politics, interactions or society and many more.
Last but not least, we need to appreciate all of these things and the inventors too. Without them, we're not even living in this new era.

What kind of environment, situation etc., would make you to become a creative/inventive/innovative person?

*Have to read this article for the second task and its 'Wifi, dual-flush loose, and eight more Australian inventions' - Click at the title to go to the website.

In my point of view, creative does not comes out when ones is in under pressure or force it to come out. It'll be come out by itself in certain situations according to a person. Everyone has their own situations where their thoughts are widely work out. Well to me, I need a space like this -->

I captured this, hihi :)
I was amazed by the this room with full of art works by artists. I feel so calmed and I get the inspires by all the artists who their art works pin up on the wall. I just love fine arts, life drawing, and visual arts. It gives me goosebumps and my mind start imagine a lot of things whenever I enter a room which full with arts. It is really boosts my spirit up.

Other than that, I love an environment where there is a huge space for me to develop more new creative ideas, where there is a space that can soothe my emotion and fully with beautiful arts and sayings or quotes from some legendary people. Or maybe with a beautiful some-kind of vintage song plays on in the room! emm I love it.

Mostly, people can produce ideas whenever they take a shower, well I'm one of them too actually. And sometimes I got the ideas whenever I imagine of something visually, and ideas suddenly popped out and whenever you determined to do something, your brain will work out for give some new ideas.

Other than that, a peaceful huge space like mosque usually is the best ever, well for muslims. And I admit that it will give you a calmed-state-of mind. It will be more calmed-thoughts whenever you pray :)

What does this tell us about the process of invention and innovation?

Invention- is the formulation of new ideas for products or processes.
Innovation- is all about the practical application of new inventions into marketable products or services.

On this task, I'd to read about 'The PC is dead, long live the tablet' article. *click at the title to go to the website :)

So, what are these things mean

From my point of view, nowadays people are mostly buy tablets than PC do. Why? Because:
  • Tablets, or I say highly devices give you full control of the screen, features and applications.
  • By using your finger, you can directly touch the screen to make gaming more interactive, and the hands-on approach provides a more tactile experience than using a mouse for drawing and illustrating.
  • Compared to PCs, these products are small and easy to bring anywhere.
  • Can store musics, photos or videos and read books on their built-in eReaders.
  • It more inexpensive than a PC do.

BUT! To me, you can't do real work on a tablet. What I mean by that is tablets aren't going to replace PCs for most workers or students or employees. There are just too many things that PCs can do while that in tablet can't. Which that:

  • PCs get better applications such like Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshope and Premiere, or Autodesk Maya 3D or AutoCAD. And we really need those in full versions.
  • It offers better gaming experiences.
  • Has high performance graphic and high speed processors.
  • PCs are more quality than tablets do and great for large companies.
Eventhough it quite expensive than tablets does, but it more useful than tablets. I think for next 10 years, tablets are still won't replace PCs or laptops.

*And I really agree with this.

Ken Robinson 2006 Ted Talk episode on creativity education and intelligence.

(Here's another link - TED Blog)

*To be honest, eventhough I might get bored with those long videos, but I always get inspired by TED's videos.

"And my contention is, all kids have tremendous talents and we squander them, pretty ruthlessly."

"So I want to talk about education and I want to talk about creativity. My contention is that creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status."

"Now, I don’t mean to say that being wrong is the same thing as being creative. What we do know is, if you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original. If you’re not prepared to be wrong. And by the time they get to be adults, most kids have lost that capacity. They have become frightened of being wrong."

"But something strikes you when you move to America and when you travel around the world: every education system on earth has the same hierarchy of subjects. Every one, doesn’t matter where you go, you’d think it would be otherwise but it isn’t. At the top are mathematics and languages, then the humanities, and the bottom are the artsEverywhere on earth." - *My jaw dropped when I read this one. Not literally

So there you go, few verses that I've just mentioned.

I agree with him. Art is actually part of 'educations'. Art is divided to a lot part of something and it's definitely like other subjects such like Science, IT and so on. But why most of people misunderstand about art? Why are they seem to underestimate art? Why? Is it because it's a low quality?

To me, art is part of educations. it describes something same like the other subjects. It doesn't mean if you're an art student, you have the lowest quality of educations. NO. Everyone is the same, it is just 'choices' that make them different. Some of people think that art is at the bottom among of the others. Plus, they think that an art student is less successful. Nowadays, the quality of economic seems to be increased year by year, and from what I see is that they are down-grade the art to the bottom which is they made it less important. To me, art students can be successful as the other students too. They have talents, they have high imaginative mind or thoughts, they're also can think out of the box, they design, they invent something and so more. They are they people who design and invent something that makes the world looks modern and colourful living style. They are the people who brings out the bore life to unique and stylish. Look? We are all just the same, it just that 'different thoughts' and 'different choices' that make us different.

Other than that, art students are trained to be professional in something such like design, photography, blogging and so more. And from that, they make money through out it. And it's just same like Business Management don't they? Oh yes they do. As an art student, I think people should start thinking and should stop underestimate art. And start to appreciate it.

Give 5 words associated to 'Creativity' and Give 5 words not associated to 'Creativity'.

Five words associated to 'Creativity'.

Ingenuity.
Ingenuity means a quality of a person's characteristic of being clever, authentic, inventive, applying ideas to solve any problems frequently and meet challenges. And it's also involves the most complex human thought processes. Not all people have this unique characteristic.

Imagination.
Imagination means action of producing ideas which is like mental images of what is not present or has not been experienced. By what I meant just now is that only certain people who can think widely than a usual thinker and who can invent something unique that has never been seen before.

Thinking outside the box.
People who have this abilities are mostly the one who have creativity thoughts. This is mean that they think in a variety aspects or ideas that lead to solve problems. In addition, they're always think differently, unconventionally, or see things from a new perspective.

Ideas.
Idea is such a thought or conception that potentially exist in mind as a product of mental activity. Creative people have wide ideas that never stop processing in their brains to represent something new. Certain people can dig out new ideas and construct new one is such an extraordinary person.

Inspiration.
Inspiration is imparting a divine influences on mind and soul. Such like something that inspires you that can touch your soul and change your mind into something better.

Five words not associated to 'Creativity'.

Boring.
People who lack of ideas, informations and so on are the one who bore the world. Which is they stick with the same ideas and informations.

Uncreative.
It means lack of imaginations. The brain can't processing and produce a new idea instead of using the common one or the old one. In addition, people who can think outside the box and can't see the variety of designs can be created.

Normal.
It's like conforming a usual or common things. Normal people usually think straight and did not use other ways to produce ideas. Normal people are usually using common ideas instead of thinking of other ways.

Dull.
In other word that not related to creative is dull. Dull is lacking of interest or exitements which is making something not extraordinary. It's like something that make other people pure bore and intellectually weak. And also lacking of responsiveness and alertness.

Doubtful.
What I meant by doubtful is that a person who doubts about what he/she's going to do means the person don't have guts to create something new. Which is the person afraid of it isn't going to work. In life, we're supposed to try something new. In the other hand, it could be something that people never heard of it.
